Attitude of Gratitude–Day 22–Animal Energies

I’ve always liked animals, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say, I’m a huge animal lover. I’d describe myself as a dog person, with an allergy to cats, a dislike of reptiles and a downright fear of rodents. I could never own a guinea pig or wrap a snake around my neck, though I find cats are tolerable with some Claritin and dogs, well, everyone likes dogs…right?

I grew up a poodle person, which, in many people’s opinions, are not even real dogs to begin with. We went the hypo allergenic route in our household due to our genetic dander intolerance. But dogs, yes, I’m still all about them. Their drooly, silliness and their capacity to love and love and love some more will never get old. But above all, it’s their loyalty that I admire most in dogs. They are the first to greet you at the back door waiting for you the moment your car door slams. They can feel when you’re happy and know when you’re sad or scared. They share so fully in your emotional experience, it’s like they are a part of who you are.

And then there are cats. Agile, smart and spiteful. Their feline grace is what I admire most about them. Their “zero fucks given” attitude. Their ability to fall from great heights and land on their feet. They are sharp and swift and sly.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve had such one on one time with any animals, so this weekend has been a complete dose of wonder for me. I love being able to sit quietly and question what is going on in their minds, analyze their needs, take care of them, and let them take care of me. I’ve learned a lot from these animals this weekend, and for that I am most grateful today.

I’ve thought deeply about the qualities that I admire most in my new pals, and seek to channel their loyal and graceful energies this week as I move from one moment to the next.

Attitude of Gratitude–Day 19–“Sunergy”

Today I walked outside and felt that Spring was in the air; it is 50 degrees, blue skies and full sun. As we approach the dawn of Spring once more, I’d like to give thanks to the light.

In an earlier post I wrote about winter being the Savasana of the seasons. It is a time to go within and to be still. As I prepare to wake myself from this deep winter hibernation, I am encouraged by the extra light and the movement of my clock forward by a solid hour.

This transition reminds us that without darkness, it’s counterpart–light–cannot exist. Daylight savings time is symbolic on many accounts. The time of the year when our clocks are set back represent yin energy–we must be conservative, graceful and quiet with our movement in order to retain our store of energy through the winter. Most people (including myself) don’t know how to sit still for such a long time and crave the yang energy of the light. Thus, it is no wonder that we are all so grateful for the natural boost we receive from those extra hours of the sunlight we get when our clocks roll forward. We do not have to work so hard to sit still and save our energy, because light is in abundance.

So today I am thoroughly grateful for this beautiful day and for the energy that the extra hour of sunlight gives me. May I harness this extra energy I have today in order to be a force for good in the world.

“With Synchronicity, all the resources we need are made available to us at the precise moment that is appropriate. The people who come into our lives are the ones we need at that moment in time. Everything is perfect. We only need to recognize this to tune into the flow. Everything happens for a Reason and Every Experience is a Learning Experience.” - Alex Chua

Attitude of Gratitude–Day 23: Positivity

Today was a day filled with lots of positive interactions, and it was a healthy reminder that if I surround myself with positive people, I will heighten my overall energy field. I left work today beaming from the inside out, because I am in a very supportive environment, where people are genuinely happy to make my acquaintance and incredibly friendly.

I also feel like I am creating my life each day and living out my story has been so. much. fun!  I am ultimately able to feel the positive energy as a direct result of the fun! I am so grateful today to the people in my life that make every moment of every day exciting, different and fun! Thank you for being a part of my story, thank you for supporting me as it unfolds and thank you for being such positive forces in my self-development. It’s because of you that I am able to shine my light, and pass my positivity on to those who need it and thrive on it as much as I do!
